Naming a child after one of the Prophets mentioned in the Quran is not only permissible but actively encouraged. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, ‘Name yourselves by the names of the Prophets’ (Sunan Abi Dawood). All 25 Prophets named in the Quran — including Adam, Nuh, Ibrahim, Ismail, Ishaq, Yaqub, Yusuf, Musa, Harun, Dawud, Sulayman, Isa, Yahya, and Muhammad — are considered excellent, blessed choices. Scholars note that such names carry a built-in legacy: as the child grows, learning the story of their namesake Prophet can inspire good character, patience, and strong faith, making it a meaningful, lifelong connection to Islamic history.
