Names belonging to figures explicitly condemned in the Quran for their arrogance, tyranny, or open disbelief — such as Firaun (Pharaoh), Abu Jahl, or Qarun — are generally avoided by Muslim parents, since these figures represent the very opposite of the values Islam teaches, and naming a child after them would be honouring a symbol of disbelief. Similarly, names of deities or idols from other religious traditions used in an explicitly religious or worship-related sense are avoided, in line with the broader principle of protecting Tawheed. It’s worth noting that names which are simply common in another culture without carrying an idolatrous or condemned religious meaning (for context-specific cases) should be assessed individually, ideally with guidance from a knowledgeable scholar.
